*FIXED* fuel filler lock stuck/frozen

Post by wpbfjr »

hi,

servicing my 2006 fjr, the fuel fill door lock is stuck/frozen.

don't wanna break a key, placed white lithium on key, inserted into keyway, no joy...

presuming the actuating lock on underside and inside tank has crud on it, tried to take fuel fill door off, no joy as door MUST be open to remove 1 retaining bolt.

uugh...

anyone had similar issue?

any ideas, other than complete new fuel tank?

tia,

dana

You'll need something penetrating, a creeper. PB Blaster, Kroil, TriFlo, even WD40 might help. And try pushing down on the lid really hard while wiggling the key.

And just to be sure, a stoopit question.... you sure you have the right key? Have you tried more than 1 key? Not being insulting but if you ever dealt with my wife, you'd know why I have to ask such things.

Remove the whole assembly #24 by removing the screws #25/#26 that hold it to the tank. see what is happening on the backside.
You can likely break the latch mechanism free from the back it probably isn't the lock cylinder that is stuck but rather the latch assembly.

I would first try a lock deicer/lubricant.

FIXED!!! factory key, pb blaster, pressing VERY firmly down allowed the latch to retract after several tries.

fully disassembled and cleaned mechanism...

reassembled and works like kinda new...
