A Rare December Ride through the Bighorns!

Post by bigjohnsd »

It is not often that we get 60-70 degree days in December. It is even rarer that they get these days across the Bighorns!
I sought company for this ride but the Black Hills BMW Riders are Coffee Drinkers and not Riders!

580 miles in 9 hours, two stops:
Sheridan WY for Gas, Coffee, and a cookie.
Buffalo WY for Gas, Coffee, and a Bahama Mama Hot Dog!

Very little traffic all day, I did see three other bikes going East on US 14 near Burgess Junction, one Wing and two V-Twins of one ilk or another, they all waved. Though warm in some spots, the temps up high were generally in the low 40's.
The coldest spot was on I-90 this morning between Sundance and Moorcroft WY, I saw 34F as I crossed Inyan Kara Creek.
Thank God for heated Jackets and hand warmers!

Freya has just a bit of salt on her from some wet patches on the high bits of US 16 coming home.

It will be warm again tomorrow, hoping for a ride and then a thorough bath for Freya before beginning the winter maintenance period.

Great report - I'm glad that you got out this late. Shortens your PMS for the year. Keep in mind, Chez Pants is open for business when you can't stand it anymore. Come hungry, come thirsty, I'll take care of the rest.

Noted your "Colder than a witches tit" reference in the report. My wife often says that it's as "cold as a witches tit in a brass bra". I've often wondered about that - is the witches tit innately cold, or is it the brass bra, with it low thermodynamic coefficient (I made that term up, I think) that makes the witches tit cold? I guess you offer that it is the former, and for that, I'm grateful for the mystery to be solved.

Of course, this cannot be confused with "calming one's tits", which I've been told to do by Julie on proper occasion. But alas, that is another story.

I feel better now, carry on....
