I had gear oil leaking from the weep hole in the swingarm so I bought a new oil seal for the driveshaft. I got the driveshaft out of the final drive assembly but I can't get the old seal off of the driveshaft. I removed the snap ring and washer in front of the seal but I can't get the only seal off the shaft. The outer part of the seal tore away while I was trying to pull it off so now I'm left with a metal collar stuck on the shaft.
I don't want to hack up the sealing surface by prying with a screwdriver. Anyone ever remove this seal?
Is there a procedure in the service manual?
Help!

RacinRay,
Put the bike on the center stand for twenty minutes, and do *not* let the rear wheel rotate, before you check the Final Drive oil level. If you roll the bike in, then immediately drain and refill the Final Drive, you will overfill the Final Drive, every time. Then the excess oil will spew out the vent hole, looking just like an oil leak, when nothing is wrong. Gotta wait until the heavy gear oil drains down off the gears, before you check the oil level there. Just a thought.

Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.

Everything is put back together and the gear oil is full. Let's see if anything drips out overnight.

...and it's still leaking. Damn it. There is another oil seal listed in the parts fiche, but that part looks much more difficult to get at.

There is coupling in there that the seal rides on. If there is a groove in it it needs to be replaced.
