Rifle Gen 3 Fairing Info

Dropped Naomi (2013) off at Rifle Fairing this morning for fitment. Gary Patel has dropped all employees except for Dennis. Gary is now the 'production' guy.

Will keep thread posted as time rolls on and R&D completes to prototype stages.

I love my Cee Baileys, but know that the company is no longer producing moto shields. I have a Yamaha touring, but never mounted it. I am following Don for a good alternative in the future. CB’s exodus has left a void in our world.

I like CB stuff too. Hoping Gary comes up with a good design. He did mention the desire to NOT use 'tuning blocks' anymore, which I fully agree with (extra mass on lift mechanism).

Naomi is Don Stanley's FJR, it has stock shield w CB 'upper deflector' which ummm, detached, at uhh, 'rally nominal' Candy Butt speeds...

No tuning block? Bummer. That was what made the Rifle shields stand out. I have have Rifle on my Gen I and Gen II FJRs. Love them. I have a Yamaha touring and V-Stream on my Gen III+ FJRs. I prefer the Yamaha Touring shield.

Me thinks Rifle missed out on a lot of sales coming to the game 8 years late.

For Gen3, Yammy added ventilation under and behind the windshield and while not the full Rifle concept, it helps to get air running up the back surface. No tuning blocks needed... if you want to experiment, you can shim the motor bracket (the windshield mounts to it)... I used 1/8" washers... one at the upper screw, two at the bottom, and more recently, 1/2" at both.... so have at it regardless of what windshield you are using, it does make a difference (as we all know Rifle did). You will need 4 longer screws for the bracket if you go more than 1/4".
I settled on a V-Stream tall, a bit floppy at the top at first, but the shimming took care of that. I have shimmed all my bikes since the FJR too, and it does make a difference. Well, testing a new shield on the Versys 1000, more of a challenge to shim that, but I can see it happening after I get a few more test rides in.

IMHO this is the worst idea ever! With the medium Vstream shimmed 1/8 & 1/4" as suggested, and the screen all the way up, the top of my helmet gets hammered so badly that my vision is blurred to the point that I can't read street names. How do you stand that shit?

Mild thread drift.

I have experienced that type of pounding and turbulence. That was mostly a mystery but revealed itself to be more of an effect of what was behind me. The top case created some type of trailing vacuum. When I put my camping bag on behind me on the passenger seat, it was immediately cured. The shield stabilized, the reverberation quelled. It was magic. I am no aerodynamic engineer, but my anecdotal evidence solved a similar problem that some of you to described.

I think the more vertical the windshield the more wind tumbles off the top.

Is nice the FJR has an electrically adjustable windshield but not nice how the top moves forward when lifted. The quietest and least turbulent position on an FJR is standing on the footpegs.

Good points all. Rode the CBX to Rifle today, July 4th, and Gary was there, working!

He mentioned that the 2013 OEM shield was flawed in many ways and is 'thinking' it over.
While he would like to eliminate the 'tuning blocks', not sure if that's possible for max effectiveness...

I commented that CeeBailey (sp) is kaput and things like headlight protectors might be good for biz.

I got no dog in this fight other than Gary is a good guy, USA product, and trying to stay afloat amidst the Chxxxx knock-offs...

Thanks, this air flow problem is for me rapidly becoming a deal breaker. This gen3 I got recently is no fun to ride at all. I'm on windshield #4 trying to find a solution and most days I just drive my pickup instead of riding this annoying POS.

I had tried the medium V-Stream too, and no matter what I did, it just didn't work for me at all....... nor did a Calsci.
On my other two bikes, there are no great screens either, one was shimmed, the other no shims possible. Ended up putting an inexpensive adjustable deflector on and while not terribly attractive, they do a good job.... all you can do is experiment.

Stopped by Rifle yesterday, Gary was working on 4th July. Had a good talk about FJR's. He mentioned the gen 3 would be more of a challenge than gen 1 and 2 due to configuration, not really sure what he meant.

So it's ongoing.. I think Gary will have Naomi for another 3 weeks.
