Would you tie from the handgrips to lift the front to change a tire? Why not? If not then why do you think it would be a good idea to trailer a motorcycle from the handgrips?

Consider the YouTube genius who lifted his FJR from under the seat to service suspension linkage? He got away with it but others following his video broke subframes.

Saw a new Canyon Dancer in a store once. Package was covered in more caveats, cautions, and disclaimers than a step ladder.

“Everyone has always seen” motorcycles tied from the handlebars so the unknowing see a product for sale toward that end then automatically assume it is right and good. Many motorcycles may be tied inboard on the handlebars. Dirtbike handlebars are stronger than FJR. Few dirtbikes weigh as much as half an FJR.

But even on a dirtbike, over the lower bridge and around the fork is the best. Many “pure race” dirtbikes have rubber isolated handlebars which gets damaged when straps clamp down. Several vendors sell eyelets to bolt to the fork bridge for a quick hook point.

My dirtbike wears Flexx bars which have no tie point. These are articulated with tunable rubbers.

So says the one who deletes a post in a motor oil viscosity thread where in the discussion one post observes viscosity varies between brands, then another well researched and referenced post dares point out the same problem exists among suspension oils where exact viscosity is very critical to function, and that gets deleted. Said to be “off topic.”

Back on topic, two recall letters arrived today. Seems I am one of the last to receive the letter, but seems to be a region thing. Another nearby got his brake switch recall letter for a 2014 same day. I blame delay on the Post Office which is wonky these days.

My dealer is closed on Mondays. We last talked about this 10+ days ago when my VIN first hit positive in Yamaha’s online lookup. No call back. I’ll be calling again tomorrow as only just now served notice “do not ride” so I want it fixed quickly.

I got the Yamaha letters today for my 2018 also. Stopped by my service department at my dealer on Saturday- was very encouraged. They had already done 6 bikes and seemed like they had the recall under control. I actually rode there on my 2018, thinking I might trade it in. It was such a pleasure to ride (even on a cold rainy day) that I’ll keep this bike and trust “Mama Yama” to make it right! Love my FJR!

Have you guys seen the video of the recall being done without removing the engine over on fjrowners? Might be worth an query.

This would be the perfect week to have mine done. But next week is the week. Hopefully, they’ll want it in and out and I’ll have it back in a few days. Dropping Saturday, as I’ll be too busy to do so Tuesday.

I don't recall a video per se, but there were pics of one done in Spain, and an Ontario guy didn't have his engine pulled. The Spanish one was interesting, it also looked like they did not split the cases... or maybe there just aren't pics of that. I believe one was done in like 11 hours of labour with no engine removal.

I agree... I know of one Concourse 14 that got handlebar fatigue and broke it using one of the handlebar support methods. I never had and will never use this type. Ive trailers many bike over the years and there are many other ways, not easier, but better - to tie down a bike.
