Hello From Upstate SC

Post by Blueridgerider »

Hello all, I recently purchased a new to me 2016 FJR1300A and am excited to be part of this forum. I also own and am selling a 2008 GL1800 and a 2017 Z900 Kawasaki. I wanted a bike that had the balance of touring capability of the Wing and some of the power and handling of the Z. The FJR has exceeded my expectations so far. I just got back from a "Break Her In" 1700 mile ride to the Dragon area and could not of been happier with my choice. So much more torque and handling than I expected. I have heard through the grapevine that there are a few riders from my area and hope to make some friends over time. Thanks

I’d be more than happy to swear under oath that having watched you ride for many, many miles, there is no way in hell you could be speeding through those curves. -0face

Welcome from Travelers Rest. I had a little woopsie in March that totaled my 13 and got me pretty good, but I'm bout good enough after this pneumonia leaves me. My new 13 is ready to be farkeled and ridden, so that's on the short term list of things to do.

BTW, I can't see any images in your link unless I sign in to something. Glad your initial impressions are good. They match mine of the last 16 years.

Welcome from Greer. I ride with these hooligans at times, mostly trying to keep up with them in the same time zone with me

Welcome from Travelers Rest, I have rode with these guys a few times over the last year. You found some good guys on here for sure and there is a handful of us that is within 20 minutes of each other.

So how much longer you think you got Wheaton? Sounds like to me you ready for go this fall or late summer?

Once I get this pneumonia licked, I'm gonna sneak onto the bike and take a lazy ride somewhere...probably close to Laurens where 1911 is gonna wire up a power strip.

Hello From Upstate SC

Post by Iris »

Welcome! We live in Greer, SC.
Just moved down here about 9 months ago.
Glad you are enjoying the FJR.
My 05 had over 100,000 miles on it.
Now have 2014’s. Plural....my husband has one too. :-)

We also have ridden with the “hooligans” of the upstate SC area.
Lots and lots of fun!

Hoping now for a bit cooler temps.

Thanks for the fantastic welcomes!! I really appreciate that. I really hope to meet some or all of you and do some riding sometime soon. I hope that pneumonia gets better quickly. Congrats on the new bike. It sounds as if your already feeling better and ready to get back at it.

Sorry to hear about your acident as well. It sounds as if your trying to get back on your feet from 2 issues but that your close. Seems as if a new 13 just showed up at your door? That will help heal you.

It really wasn't a dramatic accident, I wasn't going fast...but as jwilly said in another thread, I'm not so good at falling, evidently. I'm looking forward to again twist the throttle on some of my favorite roads, and ones far from home.
Edit: Sorry about the hijack...but just so you know, if you ever have a bad day, you needn't worry about these riding buddies having your back.

If you don't mind being bored...who knows what kind of riding shape I'm in. When I work out arrangements with Duane/1911, I will let you know the details.

Welcome. I came from a well appointed BMW RT and have found the FJR (now on my second) to be superb. Beware- I have it on reliable authority that in the midst of some knowledgeable FJR distance riders in SC, there lurk posers who haven’t straddled an FJR, much less Traveled enough to need to Rest, in months. Regardless, welcome again, and ride safe.

Welcome to the badlands of FJRdom. I live in Laurens, which is in kind of your neighborhood. Hey Wheaton, if 1911 is OK with it, I would like to be there for the insertion of the first farkle.

Welcome to the forum. Just up the hill from you in Flat Rock and fairly new myself. Due to a spinal fusion this past winter haven't been riding much but a few short rides for an attitude adjustment. Hoping to meet many of the locals here and beyond in Sept at the EOM in Maggie. Wheatie, glad to hear your about to mount back up yourself.

Hey Blueridgerider,
Wheaton started a post a while ago for local rides to folks around this area who are on this forum.
I’m trying to post the link to that to share with you (in case you haven’t seen it yet).
