How's Wheatie?

Post by FJRPittsburgh »

Hey Mark! How 'bout an update on your healing progress? Hope you're doing well. It's got to be hard to look at that 2013 sitting in the garage and not be able to ride it. Get well soon my friend.

Re: How's Wheatie?

Post by wheatonFJR »

Taking a week-long car trip on Friday that originally supposed to be an FJR CFO trip. Louanne and I will be heading up to Wheaton to visit relatives and friends that we haven't seen for four years. PT starts after we get back. Ortho guy says that my collar bone won't heal and fuse together likely. However he says that if I don't have pain and can live with it, that's not too bad. I don't have much strength in my right shoulder/arm yet, and have some mobility issues...but that is what PT will be address, hopefully. I asked the ortho guy if PT will damage anything in my collar bone area and he said no, PT is unlimited. We'll see. I will be upset if the terrorist rips my arm out of my shoulder socket. I feel a lot of weird and uncomfortable sensations with this collarbone rib thing. if I wake up for other reasons, I rarely get back to sleep because of rib/ shoulder soreness.
I walk past the FJR every day but wonder...Will I ever be well enough to ride it?
I am not naturally bent towards optimism, so I forge ahead assuming the waters will part and healing will be on the other side of the river Jordan.

Thanks for asking. I will never be the same, but I am hopeful to be healed enough to enjoy the FJR and ride it like it was meant to be ridden.

I see lots of optimistic outcomes here. I'm sure it's more difficult for you since you're actually living it. I see you riding again without a doubt! I know you'll never be the same and we are all grateful for that. :) Stay positive my friend. I've seen folks with more to overcome and they've persevered. Not to minimize your pain or healing time. You have a great attitude! I know the pain and inability to do the things you want at this point can be disappointing. Healing takes time, but it does happen.

Prayers and healing wishes sent your way. It will happen Mark. Trust me on that.

Let's get back to this never healing collarbone. What? Why will it not heal? What can be done to make it heal? What are the limitations to your life if it doesn't ever heal?

As far as never being the same, Pop knows exactly how that is. His shoulder that was damaged in his crash will forever be slightly lower and he is narrower on that side. He lost a LOT of muscle that he will never get back. But he is still Pop and he is still riding and still helping to guide me at least sort of in the Right Direction.

None of the folks that care about you will ever "be the same" after this crash. You won't ever "be the same". There is always a change when something like this happens. You can and you will make sure that whatever that change is, it will make a Good Man even better.

Mr Redfish, my post, already too long as it was, was shorthand for what is occurring. If I can ride with the collar bone as is without pain, I will do that. If not, there is a possible surgical option.

Mr Madmudder, I tried to be as straight as possible in response to a sincere and caring question. I am not a threadshitter...I am a thread enhancer. I am disappointed at your viewpoint with regards to my tireless efforts to improve the quality of this board. My attempts to keep threads on topic are obviously being wasted...in the words of 0Face: GFY!

There. Does that feel better?

Well, if things are not quite up to snuff by the time we visit in October I am willing to take that 13 bitch out for a proper WFO flogging  . Excuse me, I meant to say I'd take it out for a leisurely 25 minute ride to charge the battery.

Keep taking your vitamins.

Sure...but I'm sure your measly efforts will have already been exceeded by my break-in professional.

PS: I will be glad to entertain the women while you are gone. Take it for a good flogging on 178/215 then over to 107/130 and 28 north to 129 up and down to Cherohala out and back to Wayah Rd eastbound to 28 south to some Warwoman Rd. Yer on yer own for the rest. I think I just had a "moment" typing that all out.

Well then, there's that at least. :bustinlove:

Let time do it's thing. Let's see how you are in 3-4 weeks, and we'll know better what's to be done. I hope for continued progress, my friend, and soon you'll be riding that '13 like it should be. We all are pulling for the very best outcome!

My old boss got the same initial collar bone diagnosis after a MC crash. Ended up with second and third opinions and went to surgery after a week or so. Seems fine and has good motion.

As a teenager I rode a dirt bike with a full leg cast, maybe not much smarter now.

If there is one thing I've learned about getting older the hard way, it's this: The biggest physical difference in aging is recovery time. When I was younger, I'd do stupid shit. But in a day (two at most), it was over and gone. Now, I do stupid shit and it lingers for what seems like WEEKS. My natural impatience for everything doesn't help matters.

Hoping your recovery picks up the pace, Mark.

We'll see how PT goes for the next month or so. I have lost a lot of strength on my right side...we'll see. Plodding ahead, seeing what happens.
