ES Suspension Questions.

Post by Powerman »

Been thinking about getting a new FJR, seems like they are all ES.

My 06 has a Penske shock and Traxion Dynamics and AK-20 fork Cartridges.
I'd like all this on the new bike.

So an ES has one fork with cartridge and one without guts?
Can you get guts for the other side? Adjustment caps etc?
Can the ES stuff go on the 06 with it manually locked in one setting?
Will the ECU be able to be tricked into no codes?

Find a lightly used 2016. 2018 or 2019 "A" model and swap your hardware over. AFIK, your Gen II forks will fit. (Someone correct me if I am wrong.) The Penske will definitely work in the rear.

These have the 6 speed and LED lights...

Better to buy a '19A to start with.

Each leg has seperate function. LH fork controls compression, RH fork controls rebound dampening.

Yes, dampening settings can be changed with a PC and stepper motor driver. I do this with my USD '15A.
Will the ECU be able to be tricked into no codes?
Not without someone cracking the code and making changes.
My $.02 inserted into original post. Interesting project but not feasible with all the electronics.

Edit - Ross types faster than I do...Penske and forks fit '19A w/o modification.

I have a '17 ES. Came from an 09 with Penske and GP Suspension. I miss the after market suspension I had. The front forks on the 17 are ok but the ES shock is nowhere near as good as the Penske. The ES shock is not a supple and in extreme situations I get unwanted chassis movement where the bike feels unhinged.

If you don't want regret, (like me), the best bet is to find an A model and move your existing suspension to the new bike. Like you said it is hard to find an A model.

Like others said get the A model and swap the suspension, or if you get the ES leave it along and live with it.
