Dan the Klim Latitude breaks the wind, keeps the water out and vents well enough on hot days that I don't need "rain gear",
I'm always wearing mine.
+1 on Klim Latitude gear..add a layer or two of merino wool underneath for cold weather. Yes, it’s pricey..but it just works

Rode the FJR today. I headed over to Hico Texas to the 15th anniversary of the Two Wheeled Texan's Pie run, right at the place it all started. Someone said they stopped counting at 11:15 when they went inside to eat and we already had 81 bikes there. Good turnout and good food.

I had someone grab me on the way in and asked if I was the guy who knows Doug who has all the tire changing equipment nearby. In fact I do, Doug's the guy I've ridden with for a long time and purchased and sold bikes to and from. Good guy, and yes, he's got a full Coats tire changing setup and a really nice huge shop. Not as big as Turk's but big. Turns out Texas_T, who some of you LD guys might know, had a split in his front tire after riding in from Phoenix for the lunch. He and another guy had already run to procure a tire so I herded cats and led the group back to Doug's house and we got him set up. I led the group, that's it, then I stood around and watched others spin wrenches and change the tire. Good times hanging out in the shop with a bunch of fellow motorcyclists and getting someone back on the road.

Ordered on of these... 'For to mount my GPS.

I have had my GPS mounted to a Ram ball in the orphan mirror mount hole by the clutch reservoir,

but... Me thinks I'd prefer to have in front and centre.
We'll see how it works...

Swept around it as I cleaned up the garage. Backordered mirror extenders for it from Twisted Throttle.

After lunch, and after his tire change giving him a late start home, he made 468 miles to Van Horn TX where he stopped for the night. His license plate is LDRDR and he certainly earns that plate.

Florida might not be motorcycle mecca. But it's nice in the winter.
Rode yesterday and today.

Not sure what those birds are it was far away.

Maybe swans down for the winter?

They were big!

danh600 wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2020 12:22 pm Some good posts on heated gear. I hope to live where I need it one day!!

Any of you guys just throw your rain jacket or pants on for warmth? I am thinking that olympia rain jacket might be a good addition to the mesh jacket and layers I use on a cool day.

Almost all the riding I do down here is above the temps you guys turn your heated gear on. So until I make a life change I don't think I need any.
I do this all the time. It's not unusual to see a 10-12*F drop in temp for me on a day ride to higher elevations. The rain gear gives me the perfect temporary outer layer I need.

The other thing someone turned me on to is a golf shop wind shirt under the mesh. Works great without the bulk of other solutions.

Rode Saturday and Sunday. Temps started out in the low 50s went up to the low 60s as the day went on.

Instead of zipping in the liner I just threw on the rain jacket. It worked perfect. Probably a bit too warm if it's in the 70s. But will work fine for most of the cool weather I ride in.

Rained Saturday. Stayed around the house and whined until I couldn't stand it anymore until I jumped in the car and visited all the man-stores til I was less bummed.

Worked Sunday morning. Dad called and asked if I would return his plane that I borrowed weeks ago. The gall! What good is an airplane if your #1 son can't run the hobbs meter up? I'd let him ride my motorcycles (except that one or maybe that one). He seemed pleased that I filled it up when he dropped me off. Sad to see he and the plane go home. I have always felt that flying or riding motorcycles ranks right at the top of fun things to do.

Today is a good day. 50ish in the morning with a high in the upper 50s. Great day to ride to work, take a long riding lunch and maybe leave early and take the round about way home.

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.
Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.

Today is the fifth day in a row that I have rubbed neatsfoot oil into my newly acquired Racer gloves, working them in, slowly stretching them to fit my hands....A new Shoei RF1200 helmet showed up this morning

Ride an hour in blinding rain, then spend the rest of the day riding in the sun with Redfish and his dad. Worked for my current gloves. After that they fit like a....well, like a glove.
