BUT... YOU HAVE TO ACTIVELY DECIDE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BACKYARD. Bunch of cry babies if you ask me, which you just did. If I jump into the boxing ring and get punched in the face, can I run home home to mommy and cry about how the "mean people" are picking on me? I'd hope she'd slap the shit outa me for being a pussy.

Jesus f'n Christ grow a pair. It says in the description, if I recall correctly, something to the effect of putting your big boy pants on because you're entering a non-censored zone.

You reminded us several times that it's your forum, your rules. You warned everybody to expect to get their feelings hurt and if they weren't going to be able to take it, to not participate. You setup the backyard because there was no place on "he who shall not be mentioned" forum to have any discussion. Let's not forget that I got banned over there because of something I said HERE... That's Ludacris, but you kowtow to a keyboard warrior. So, you banned anything about that place or that person.

What the f@$k happened to this country? There are no MEN left, just a bunch of Soy-Boy Latte drinking pansies. (oh I'm sorry Did I hurt somebody's feelings?)

First no more TGIF, them no discussion of Voldemort, and now we need to make this a "Safe Forum", what's next preferred pronouns in our profile?

If you want to make this another "Safe Space" so the cry-babies don't cry. It's your house, but I won't be coming here anymore.
A huge set of FUZZY BALLS to ya Marty. Sadly most of the offended suffer from poor reading comprehension.
It's always those who pick the fight who cry the loudest when the get slapped in the mangina.

I remember when I was always the prick and a few wanted to punch my face. When Jason and I went to CFO some years back TriggerT came up to me and said just that. Jason told him "stand in line". He wasn't impressed. But I'd have let 'em take a poke, my skin is tough as is my backbone.

If I had a dollar for every time someone said that, I'd have hosting fees covered for the next 10 years. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
First no more TGIF,
- this was not a choice, but a condition set by the web host's terms and conditions. I apologize that I'm not wealthy enough to own the internet and allow members to post porn here. Aren't there already websites for that?
them no discussion of Voldemort
This actually happened way before the TGIF issue. He has the same approach over there - if you were a member there and decided to toss flaming bags of dog crap at me there, it would be deleted.
and now we need to make this a "Safe Forum"
That is not the intent at all, but you seem to have a solid handle on jumping to that conclusion any time someone does something you don't agree about.
what's next preferred pronouns in our profile?
Yes - would you prefer "They or Them"? But since you brought it up, I would appreciate it if you changed your avatar, unless you think that's your last parting gift - that your last act was to continuously flip me off every time I see your posts. In which case, if I see you have indeed not returned, I'll change it for you.

Thanks - have a great day.

Very timely! I'd been thinking that it might be useful to have a sticky with some definitions of terms such as logical fallacy and non sequitur. I found this https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/comm ... -fallacies It has 15 fallacies conveniently numbered. There's probably a more comprehensive one somewhere. It would save time and maybe some egos if responses were just a series of quotes and numbers. :)

Looks like there's two sides to the coin here as well, pro and anti back yard discussion. I thought creating the back yard area for potentially contentious discussions coupled with the several warning steps it takes to gain access to it was brilliant. For those that don't care to read such discussions they have the option to have either opt out up front, or turn if off when they find out it's not for them, simple and clean. I have to go with Marty that there are way too many in this country, and sadly apparently in this forum as well, these days that want access to everything, but then want to complain to daddy when things don't go to their way. This forum has great potential and I don't envy all the whining the admins are apparently having to put up with. Fwiw, might I comment that sure there have been some name calling here and there, and if that chaps some folks and violates the admin's guide lines then take action, it's your forum after all, but please also consider recognizing when the name calling is poking fun in jest. I would say to those that would like to see the back yard section shut down and subsequently whine to the admins about it all the time, why not just stay in the other sand box where it is clean and safe? Why put Wayne and Tim in this fix?

Well, why not offer my opinion that wasn't asked for? :) Like it means much, anyway :)

I'd guess, and I could be wrong, is that the people who complained were probably some that started a number of issues. Once started, they reported people responding to the fire they started. I'm guessing that the wrong people got a talking to. If you keep poking me with a stick and I punch you in the nose, do you punish the person that punched or the person that poked them with a stick? One was trying to get a reaction and one was reacting. Which one is worse?

Looks like, from the outside only, the people that punched back got the worst end of this.

That's all based on me having absolutely no data so there's that :) LOL

Plus, it seems like 99.9% of it was about the COVID thread. Just leave things the way they are, with one new rule. No discussions about COVID policies. You can talk about your family or friends who have/had it and update that, but no discussions. Doesn't that solve almost the entire problem?

Covid is just the latest issue that’s divisive..Gun ownership and politics were divisive before that. The way I see it, it isn’t the topic, it’s the ease with which the discussion devolves into being divisive and the reaction(s) of the participants.
It seems impossible to simply agree to disagree.

IMO people have been adequately warned that the back yard area is "the bad part of town" and they should not venture there unless they are willing to take responsibility for themselves. There should be no expectation of "the police" coming to the rescue.

The only policing of that area should be if someone whines/complains about something in that sub-forum, they should have their access to that area revoked.

Sure there is. If a discussion about some Canadian rights come up, I wouldn’t even consider telling a Canadian how things “should” be in Canada. That’s the affairs of Canadians. Since I’m not one, I don’t pretend to know what’s best for them. I’ll let them decide for themselves what they want from their government and their country.

Any time you come after someone’s country, it’s a given there’s going to be trouble. Can’t we just agree to let people show some respect on criticizing other’s countries and policies?

Good discussion, thank you, again for the constructive criticism and opinions.

Much of the friction has generated from Covid related discussion, and unfortunately those attitudes spill over into other conversations. There are some members who simply can't resist the temptation to continue to poke at someone in every thread, even outside of the backyard sub forum. There have been threads started about hot-button type topics where the OP posts a link to a story and nothing else; that is an action that is doing nothing be stiring the waters and hoping for a topic that will spin off the rails. It's intentional in my view and is the kind of b.s. that needs to stop.

Now, if you have a point to make or share about a topic like that, and include an opinioin along with the link to the store, you're starting a conversation around the topic. But to just toss a flaming bag of dog crap over the fence and go stand in the corner to see who steps in it first - those are the threads that have lead to the current state of attitudes and tones.

common themes I'm hearing:
  • remove covid discussion
  • keep backyard
Understand that I don't see removing the backyard sub forum as the fix. Doing that does not fix some making an offensive comment under the guise of sarcasm or joshing. Remember, sarcasm in spoken conversation, where tone, infliction reveal the sarcasm is not present when typed and posted in written text. It becomes much harder to discern when reading it versus hearing it.

OK, I'll fess up. I might be the one that started this whole shit show. Wayne, truth be told, I figured that the backyard was for folks to have a little arguement over differing opinions. I know I have been pokin the bear, but i'm pretty sure I have never been demeaning towards anybody. I might call them out on their beliefs or logic, but i don't personally put them down. Unless I actually have met them face to face.

The rules of the backyard seemed pretty straightforward and I'm pretty sure i abided by them. I will plead guilty to starting posts here that could be construed as somewhat inflammatory. But hell, we are all grown men for the most part and we all clicked the button that said "You won't get upset when a thick skinned, shit eating, donkey raper calls you a name"

I say keep this sub forum open, but maybe make 1 thread that will encompass all of the cursing and screaming and name calling, and the folks that can't handle it don't have to click on that thread. We are all adults here, and if sticks and stones will break your bones, then go to a playground that has bark and pea gravel on the ground, not hard dirt.

My .02 Now, I promised Wayne I would do more posting in the actual MC section of the site. So, let's argue about forward looking infrared cameras

Covid is just the latest issue that’s divisive..Gun ownership and politics were divisive before that.
On the gun threads, I know that I've seen a lot of self-policing and those involved over the long haul have been very aware of the thin line needed to toe.

I would disagree as the WHOLE of the Backyard is already what you want limited to 1 thread. Again, if you are easily offended, there are lots of warnings before joining in as well as a way to leave it if you decide that it should be limited to just 1 thread.

Sometimes I find it hard to believe how things can go to shit on an Internet forum. These people — us — are supposed to be friends. Can’t a friend be allowed to hold a differing opinion? Can’t friends discuss our differences civilly?

Just because I vote the way I do, does that make you believe I’m without value?

This nation was formed upon the concept that all persons have equal value, no matter what they look like or what they think like. I spent six years in the submarine service defending your right to hold your own opinion, as long as it’s legal.

This forum should be no different: you share your opinion civilly, I will share my opinion civilly. If we disagree ... then let’s disagree, change the subject, and hope to see each other at EOM or YFO or CFR or SEOR or SFO or the Reuben Run.

You want to rant? There’s the Backyard. Have at it, but don’t complain about what goes on in there. Don’t want to see or hear that stuff? Stay out.

Unc, it would be nice if people could just agree that the two of them don't share the same opinion and move on. But doesn't seem to be that way anymore. Either agree with them or you're an idiot and without value. People seem to have a hard time looking at an issue from both sides. My older brother can no longer see any other view but his own. And if you don't agree with him he will hammer on you until you agree or will walk away disgusted. Because of that I no longer call him or see him very often. Now that's between brothers. What chance do two pig-headed strangers have?
