Forum Downtime This Evening - 6/18/18

Post by DesignFlaw06 »

There's more migration stuff that needs to happen. I'll have to take the forums down so that I can grab a current backup. In theory, the forums should only be down as long as it takes for the DNS change to propagate.

Pass or fail, I only expect downtime for a little while. The plan is to attempt this around 8PM tonight.

Alright, I botched that. Wasn't as prepared as I thought I was.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll have to try again once I get a little smarter.

Dude, you gotta work on your skills here. Not the IT skills, the reporting skills. For all we out here know, everything that was planned to take place went smoothly and without a hitch. Or, as my change requests are closed out at work, "Change completed successfully." :D

I suppose that's fair.

Change completed successfully. Twice.

We admins don't get that button. Price of unlimited power I guess.

Some may have noticed the outage last night; we are working on improvements and enhancements to the site and ended up needing to disable the site for about 3 hours last night.

For those who are connected, you saw the update I posted in the FJRiders.com Facebook group. That's the best alternative way to get info out if this site is down.

Thank you to those who texted and messaged me to confirm that the site was indeed down and not accessable.

All this B.S. above basically boils down to "Wayne doesn't have a clue what he's doing and Tim is doing his best to educate me..."

Happy Friday...

It boils down to "Tim has created a monster who is dangerous enough to do some real damage!"

Actually what happened last night is one of the big reasons we are doing all of this work. There are too many parts between this forum and AttackTheRoad.com. ATR has been migrated and consolidated. That process alone has made both sites run better already. FJRiders is next on the list. Hoping to be this weekend. I'll make a post when I've got a timeframe for it. Hopefully it goes smoother than last time.

Joking aside, Wayne has done a lot of work on his end. He's picked up more knowledge than he realizes or admits to. I'm not an expert on all of this either, but as long as I'm one step ahead of Wayne, I look good.

You don’t have to run faster than the bear to get away. You just have to run faster than the guy next to you.
