Shoot - I'm not drinking that snake oil.

The FJR eats tires. It eats tires like good homemade potato chips on a cool Saturday evening. It eats tires like a pack of 12 year old kids on a bag of M-n-M's. It eats tires like Poolboy drinks beer.

That is all....

Yes...if you love your FJR and love your twisties, you love when that new shipment of tires arrives from the Brown shipping car.

This has been just about the best "build thread" I have read. Very good stuff. Actually got me to join this forum when I had just lurked from time-to-time.

Thanks Ross!

Well folks, today was the day that this chapter of Jolene's life closed and a new chapter begun. Viper Dad stopped by this morning and paid for her, I took one last ride on her to take her to her new home. Viper Dad sold his bike last night!

Viper Dad was actually standing outside waiting for me as I pulled up. I wonder how long he would have stood there if I didn't come by :)

She did have one last surprise in store. I tried for a personalized plate but someone had Jolene, so after a little thinking, I found one that fit in multiple ways :) I loved the double meaning. It was a secret from Viper Dad so it was funny to see his face when he saw it.

She really began to fight me on the last few items. Putting the wheels on after having the tires changed was a disaster. Everything that could go wrong, did, repeatedly. On the Helibars, I got the triple tree all torqued down, only to realize I had torqued it with a U-Haul blanket between the triple tree and frame, I put the new fairing on and she wasn't have any part of that. Just fought me the whole way, where before, everything seemed to happen so smoothly.

Viper Dad was already cleaning my greasy handprints off of her and polishing her. She's in good hands. I will admit, when he texted me that his bike was gone last night, I teared up. I know how much he loved that bike, and I wasn't ready for Jolene to be gone.

Stay tuned, the next chapter in Jolene's life is just starting :)

As I hugged her tank in Viper Dad's garage, I didn't say "Good bye", I said "See you later". That helped ease the pain, knowing I'd see her again.....soon :)

So...did you loft that front wheel of Jolene in front of ViperDad just to show who Jolene really performed for?

I'd say ViperDad is gonna catch hell if we see her being abused. (You know, sitting in the garage being ignored).
Edit: This Forum will not be the same...thanks for sharing the tech info, but even more, strangely enough, thanks for sharing the story.

I'm so happy for ViperDad! I'm even more happy for Jolene, as she has someone who will take care of her, the way she should be taken care of.

Steve, you didn't have to do all the things you've done for her. Fixing 2nd gear, getting her looking showroom new, and selling her to a dear friend. Thank you, my friend.

ViperD, you have a great bike. I know you loved Raven, but you'll love Jolene too. She just wants to please. She really likes it when you take her through the gears at a brisk pace, and isn't afraid of rain, sun, or hail ( she's been there, done that). So, best of luck with her...and...congratulations!!

Me? Are you nuts? That's what traction control is for :) It lets idiots like me ride bikes like this! Come to think of it, I should have. I had the cash and he had the title, so technically, it wasn't my bike at that point. I wish I would have realized that sooner. I would have ridden like a squid all the way there.

She'll be ridden, I'm going to hold him to that. Plus he can't listen to any thing but classic and southern rock, can't drink any beer that has fruit or a fruit taste in it, can't take it to "bikes and coffee" gatherings at Starbucks. I'm still finalizing the list of conditions. He didn't actually buy Jolene, he bought a licensing agreement. At any time, I can revoke the agreement and take possession back.

The next chapter is already being written, give us a little time for the story to happen ;)

What a perfect ending to a perfect story. An ending that NONE of us could have predicted, and yet ALL of us enjoy immensely.

What ending am I referring to?

The smacking of Jasen upside the head.

That is all.

Guys, I am overwhelmed by all of this. It was certainly difficult to watch Raven leave my possession, especially for my daughter. However, the pain was eased by the prospect of Jolene joining our family and I couldn't wait for her to be delivered! Festus has poured every bit of his heart and soul into resurrecting Jolene and I am honored to carry on her legacy. In fact, the very first thing I did was spend a few hours giving her a complete detailing, it felt great to get my hands on every part of her. LKLD, you can rest assured that she will be loved and cared for as if you still owned her; my wife and children are all excited to ride her. The next chapter of her life will be her best yet: tearing up the backroads of Virginia then returning home for a wipe-down, a battery tender, a cover and a garage... at least until the next ride!

I updated my avatar to reflect the thing that brought this all together: the damaged shift fork. I truly enjoyed helping Festus bring Jolene back to life and while he often teased me about buying her he didn't make the official offer until just last week. From that point on I knew there was no going back, I had been seduced by that gorgeous 2013 FJR and she WOULD be mine! I look forward to keeping this thread alive with thoughts and pictures as her story continues.

Interesting how this all came around. Enjoy the gen 3!

What I learned from this is that I should probably really hold off on test riding the new goldwing.
