Set the stuff out to wash it. Went to buy another obd harness from ATR, but it looks as if they’re no longer available. Wheaton’s success made me want to take another run at my flashing abs light.

Is the orange one a coleman tent stake mallet?

It's not a Coleman as far as I know. I have had for so long I don't remember where I bought it...maybe Harbor Freight?

Aha, that looks like something significantly sturdier than the plastic crap that comes with their tents. Same orange though.

This morning, I had two tasty fresh choices waiting for me. Had to get out before it got hot.

Image

I grabbed the FJR, rode it around a bit to wear off the paper and whatever else was on there, then came back to the house and took off again. As I passed by the lake near our house I noticed a father and son out fishing this morning. It made me a little sad because my son doesn't have his dad to take him fishing because his dad neither knows a thing about fishing nor does he enjoy it. Then I remembered. My son is sitting behind me on the FJR and I realized, that poor kid by the lake only gets to go boring fishing, he's not lucky like Jakob is getting to go motorcycling for breakfast burritos.

So that's what we did, we rode a few towns over and he had a sausage, egg, potato and cheese burrito and I had the same except swap the sausage for bacon. Yum.

Came home and realized, why choose when you can have both. Took the GSX-S1000 for a rip, then when I got home and my freshly cleaned chain was all nice and warm, I waxed it. Now I'm sitting inside the house with the A/C going and watching the outside temperatures rise.

Well for the past few days I have been working on both FJRs intermittently. Pop and I are supposed to leave Saturday headed toward the Black Hills and the bikes needed some attention.

First, a set of Road5s for Pop's bike, his old PR4GTs had 8900+ miles and were not going to make a 4500+ mile trip.

He rode it home in the rain. While it was here I found a rat's nest under the rear seat. That got me thinking... I pulled the side cover off, looked inside the airbox and sure as hell, there was a huge rat's nest inside the air filter. We cleaned all that out and it was very bad.

I changed his oil and filter, I feel like his bike is ready to go.

Meanwhile I decided to do a Map Update on my Garmin Zumo 660. Apparently that killed it. It will not work and the hard reset won't work either. POS.

I had a new in the box Garmin Zumo 396 so I removed the old wiring harness, installed the new one and now I have a New GPS. It's only money...

Decided to rotate the bars back a little bit on the HeliBar Bridge, old age is getting to me more and more. Tired of that neck/shoulder pain and really, how far forward do I need to lean?

Also cleaned and lubed the clutch lever then bled/flushed the clutch cylinder fluid. It looks a lot better now. I still have to change the oil and wash it but I am pretty lazy so that will get done later this evening.

Looks like you left the brass clutch bushing a little longer than you should have...

Hope the rodents didn't make some lunch of the wiring insulation or rubber hoses!

Here are the pics of the bushings from my 125k mile relay arm.

This damage is entirely my responsibility and my fault. Part of the issue was the near 2 year streak of riding every single day. That was my choice. That choice led me to ride in rain, occasionally in snow, and on salt treated roads here in PA. While I'd like to feel I take pretty good care of my bike and the valve checks and adjustments, oil and filter changes, and tire replacements were done pretty much on schedule this was one service I straight out neglected to do. I never felt I had sufficient time to do it until now and expected there to be issues. Doing this relay arm swap and rear shock replacement took me almost 3 days working at it a few hours after work as I had time. I will be rebuilding the relay arm I removed and having it ready to swap in the next time I service this.

This service does suck but it really is worth doing if you have any intention of getting optimal performance and handling out of your FJR and having it last. Attend a tech day if you need. Phone a friend. Pay a shop if you must but don't wait as long as I did. FWIW at no time did I ever feel the bike was unsafe or dangerous to ride. The handling only really fell off and the ride quality deteriorated in the past few months so this is really a slow decline that goes unnoticed until it just becomes painfully apparent.

Those are awful! I guess I should have another look at mine!

I am betting that the salt had a lot to do with it!

Rode my own bike to work today. Thoroughly enjoyed the feel of the reworked rear suspension. Might just have to make this a regular service item....

Wheatie, If GixxerJasen could share his front fork story the least I can do is own up to my shoddy maintenance of that relay arm! Besides if those pics convince just one person how important it is to service them it's worth it. I've benefited a lot from all of you so I owe some back!

If you lube the suspension pivots early, it will keep the moisture out and you can extend the interval to every couple of years easily. Perhaps don't let the "gotta take the center stand off" deter you from lubing what you can get at right now, the only one you can't is the upper front one. It will save you the big bucks in the end. If you ride in a lot of wet and salt, well, every year maybe not a bad idea for the ones you can get at.
If you're doing this, if you remove the suspension dogbone/link bolt on the swingarm and the shock mount, you can pivot the relay arm forward of the centerstand enough to get tools on the bolt on that end of the dogbone much easier.

Line an I went for a ride yesterday down to French River. A very pleasant day. We were a bit late leaving and were going to be late for dinner so I showed Line what FJR's do best. She very much likes Sport mode. (I normally just leave it in tour mode).
