First ride of 2020! Made it to 50 °F (10 °C) and I got out for a couple of hours. Still lots of salt on the roads but they were mostly dry. Will try again tomorrow and then give it a wash. Cooler with some snow/rain on Monday and dreary the rest of the week.

Quasi maintenance day for the FJR. Installed the freshly rebuilt and new [to me] Penske 8987 that I scored in the other sandbox. With the side panels stripped off, bled the rear brake circuit to get the pedal back...might have helped, we’ll see. Checked the air cleaner - with only 13K on it, was OVERDUE to change. Ugh!! Biblical rain today so test ride will wait.

I finally got mine out of my shop and into the carport. Installed my new MotoBatt battery while I was still motivated.

Hey -G what is this rain stuff you speak of? :D

I don't think we get too much of that over here in Spokane!

I took apart the front dash to install mirror extensions when they arrive next week. I was bored.....it took about 25 mins as it was my first time. I hope the extensions help, my elbows get boring after a bit.

If extenders don't work FZ1 mirrors work great. Some say they are ugly but I don't agree, plus I can see. To me they just look different.

Sadly, mine still has a patina of bugs on it from last year. It didn't get a bath when it went away in November and it just got out for the first time last Saturday. Crappy weather for the next week or so...

Always, plus son wanted to learn how to wash the car, so I had to teach him right. After we finished with the car, I'd changed the oil in the FJR, so I wheeled it out to clean it too.

Removed excessive wiring from the battery box area on my 17 and installed a Clearwater Voltage Sentry.

I had this on my 09 and like the simplicity of a light to indicate battery charge status. Before I replaced the battery on my 09, about 3 years ago, the Voltage Sentry was gave warning the battery wasn't accepting a charge. Perfect.

I picked up a bargoon Penske (8983 I think, has remote damping reservoir, manual preload ring), mounted it up on the VFR. Spring is Hyperpro, don't know what spring rate, but PO is not a lightweight. Have not test ridden it yet.

I took a fantastic 250 mile ride yesterday including RT 11 to Moonshiner 28 to the Highlands, 281, 215, BRP to 276. Temps ranged from 55 to 77. Given the state of affairs in NC there very few cars and motorcycles out so I had these glorious roads pretty much all by myself. The BRP had the most people out hiking and biking but the towns like the Highlands and Brevard were like ghost towns. I mean it looked like something out of the Walking Dead.

As you can see from the photo, the Police were stopping everyone going in and out of the Highlands. She said they were asking everyone why they were out and if it was necessary. I thought she might of said something to me as I told her I rode down to get a photo of Bridal Falls but nothing more than enjoy a nice ride and be safe. I thanked her for being out here trying to keep us safe.

I feel fortunate to have motorcycling as a great outlet to enjoy during these crazy times. As I have joked about before, you really cannot social distance any better than riding with full gear on and that is certainly why I believe she had no problem with me going in and out of the Highlands. I hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy some good rides and is doing well.

That’s badass.... planning on riding tomorrow. Haven’t locked down exactly where, and I don’t have to... I will wander.

Today, tidied up the garage a little. Working from home, laptop and phones set up on my tool cart. Cleaned the centerstand and kickstand on the bike for the first time since it was new. May dismantle and clean the rear brake lever/pivot. Been a couple of months and lots of rainy riding.
