I too, rode it to work today. 55f in, 82f out...mesh jacket both ways.

I don't ride it to work often, and each time I do, I'm reminded why.

IDIOTS! :zombwobb:

I can hardly wait to retire and move.

I commute in a cage for the same reason you expressed and never lose my desire to take trips on weekends and vacation days.

I rarely have time, if I didn't commute, I wouldn't ride. But I know how that is. Before I was married and had a kid, I'd commute and then never want to go anywhere on the weekends. I started riding just for fun, and it was better. But now there just isn't always time, so I take what I can get.

That said, today I drove the truck. Sure, there was rain in the forecast and it was sprinkling but that wasn't the reason. I had to pick up my new to me aux tank!

Image

Price was right. Local guy bought an FJR and it had this with it. He put it up for sale on Two Wheeled Texans for $200 and I passed on it because I need to spend $200 on other things and don't really NEED an aux tank. Later he lowered the price to $150. After still no takers, he put up a post basically saying "Come get this out of my garage!" I can't pass that up. We met for lunch and I paid his bill so I got it for the low price of one lunch. Heck yea.

Now I got to get up the balls to drill my tank, figure out the mounting, and run the plumbing.

I ride to work almost every day because I just prefer to ride. I also hate putting gas in my F-150 POS edition that sucks fuel like a college student at free beer night. I've also been fortunate enough to always live within about a 30 minute or less drive to work with only a limited amount of interstate to deal with so my commute is actually enjoyable. My commute for the past 9 years has even included a nice 2.5 mile section of twisty road leading to my current job. This has also led to occasions of being asked to go out and pick up or deliver parts using the bike which means mileage reimbursements and riding on the clock which does not break my heart at all. I made one delivery run in the Fall that paid for my next set of tires!

I feel for you guys who can't enjoy your commute. That would suck.

I rode it to the office. In mesh gear. And was a little warm. Simply amazing for February. Noticed that the mesh "suit" I was 100% sure was a matched set was actually a Firstgear jacket and Olympia pants. So THATS why they don't zip together.... I love being able to ride to work, and sometimes other work places. I may choose to commute on a motorcycle, but that doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for other riding. Why, just today, as I sped toward downtown zombie central, I was doing the math of a solo trip to the Grand Canyon. That's two SS1K's to get there, and two to get back.

Bill - either your Pants and/or your Jacket should have come with the zipper compliment. Any competent seamstress can sew one or the other so that you can zip them. Do consider it. During my crash in 2015, I slid on my back at speed. Without any shadow of doubt, having the jacket zipped to the pants saved my back hide. In fact, the only road rash I sustained was on my forearm because the jacket cuff did NOT have a zipper on it, and the Velcro did not hold. Since that day, Pants will NOT ride without a jacket that has a zippered cuff.

Only my $0.02 worth - YMMV.

Bill,

I second the option for a good sewing machine operator. It may be easier to find a suitable (no pun intended) zipper and replace the zips on both the pants and jacket. I'd recommend heavy metal teeth, for the zipper. Try camping or surplus stores for heavy zippers.

Use outdoor-grade (UV-proof) upholstery thread for the sewing. Any ordinary sewing machine can use that thread, no sweat, and you can not break the thread bare-handed; it would cut your skin first. Any fabric shop will have the right class of sewing thread, in various colors.

Yeah, I ride motorcycles. I know why dogs put their heads out of the car windows.
Yeah, I fly hang gliders (3000 hrs.+). I know why the birds sing.

Another February ride in SW Penna. I left under somewhat sunny skies enroute to Flight 93 NP. Returned in light rain.
#1. It is winter! I'm thankful for a couple hours for a ride!
#2. Didn't need mesh gear!

Nice, I'd like to see the current Flight 93 Memorial. We went in like 2008 when it was just a field, with a dirt path and a fence with a bunch of memorabilia on it. I'd love to see it now in person.

It Has changed a lot since the chain link fence, etc. My wife and I belong to the "Friends of Flight 93", a volunteer group that helps staff the park especially during milder months. Just our part to support those 40 brave souls.

If (or when) I make it to SEOR, I'd enjoy a side trip to the Flight 93 memorial.

That would pretty much be a day trip, from Marietta...

You could easily stretch it to a day each way...if you wanted to take the fun roads.

Yes Sir Mr Pants, if you get this close, we have got to spend a day or so looking around here. (Mr. Redfish, you are welcome too!)

175 miles this afternoon, from 178 in Pickens County up 215 to the BRP...Took a pitcher, headed back south to Charlie's Creek Rd to 281 South to 11 and east and south to home. Started out at 1:30pm at 65 degrees, 50 at Balsam Grove, and 42 at the BRP. 59 back down in the upstate when I got home at 4:30.

Awesome ride! Wished I had a go pro with sound mic near the Leo Vince cans as I was charging through and up 215.
