Rode it to work...since it got down to 33 degrees, I broke out the heated liner.

Returned Monday from our annual coastal trip. 1225 miles, 43.6 mpg, 9 light houses, 1 light ship, a couple other sights and great seafood.

Today is the first day for heated gear for me, 80 something degree's yesterday, low 50's today. {I know, only sissy's wear heated gear in the 50's but colder weather is coming soon, and I need to make sure it still works before I really need it}.
I have met the enemy, and it is me.

Put the Barkbusters on. It'll be a while before anything approaching heated gear time for me, but I figured out this morning that uninsulated glove time is over, at least in the early mornings.

Does it require any steering input anymore? It ought to know the way by now.

Well, for a change it's what my FJR did to me. It made me old. Snap, just like that. I walked past it and took my car. The sun was breaking through the trees. It's going to be as hot as 60° this afternoon. And still, I took my car. The sun was rising in a clear sky, the frost rime covering everything hadn't quite started melting yet. It was 27° and dry. And I took my car. This is how it starts....

We got too much, getting rid of it any way we can. I've forgotten what hard ground feels like and what the sun looks like.

I'm not gonna be surprised when they announce that October has been the coldest and wettest on record. We've had snow a couple of times this month. I've been out on the bike twice since Oct 1 and one of those was for about 45 minutes. Upto about 60F today, back down to 35F tomorrow.

Already happening here.

https://www.nbcdfw.com/weather/stories/ ... 00151.html

From the article:
Here are some more numbers from our record-breaking October:

Including Tuesday, there've been five days in a row with rain, three days where the daily rainfall record was broken and a total of nine days which had rain this month.
Oct. 1-15, the rainfall total is 9.02 inches, which is 7.23 inches higher than normal.
Since Jan. 1, 43.92 inches of rain fell at DFW Airport, which is 15.47 inches above normal.
On Monday the temperature hovered in the 40s. The earliest 40 degree ever for the season. DFW also had a record low for the day, 41. The previous record was 42.
The average temperatures for this time of year: low 57, high 78.
I got a short ride in this past weekend on the GSX-S during a break before it got really bad. Too wet and cold to ride to work so the FJR has sat and my truck has been guzzling gas on my 100 mile round trip commute. :(

Ouch. I thought my commute was getting on the long side. So much so I altered the route to save 10km per trip (fuel savings for the year will be over a $1000!), takes me about 3 minutes longer. Big whoop.

Well, I only have to do it like 2-3 days a week, so it's tolerable. The bike makes it more tolerable. Being able to take the HOV/Texpress lanes on the bike makes it even more tolerable. Sitting in the truck in the rain in the traffic, not so tolerable. But it is dry and there's heated seats so there's that.

Loaded the loboo’s on it. Riding to the airport tomorrow. Fished the heated gear lead out from beneath the fairing. It’ll be 41F when I leave in the morning. I thought it’d be December before I needed heated gear.
