Rode it to work this morning. Lowest temp I saw was 33 and I realized I need to break out my cold weather riding gear when I get home today. Forecast calls for rain the next day or two so I'll likely just drive my truck those days.

Weather was decent on Saturday. Did a bunch of stuff around the house and smoked some brisket.

Pulled the VT1300 Honda out and changed the oil. Rode it around the neighborhood and put it away. Planning to ride it on Sunday.

It rained all day sunday.................

Something about a front stalling out over us. I sure didn't feel any cold weather.

I winterized the FJR today.

VStream reinstalled and dug out the coiled electric gear cord and installed it. Done, ready for a good ride on Friday.

I checked out the forecast in Dallas today and found the lows are 55 with a high of 76. There is a chance of thunderstorms later in the week.

Wearing the electric gear might turn it into a lighting rod and function similar to a toaster! :D

Enjoy the winter riding season.

Try not to ride to work in the rain, but i do ride home in the rain. Forecast is calling for the four letter word although of the shower type. But around here, the powers that be spread salt and stone like it has unlimited supply, i would anticipate the riding season ending.

VStream! Man, I totally forgot I have a brand new one sitting in the shed that I took off the previous spring and totally forgot I had.

No matter, the Givi looks 10x better and works about the same.

Yea, I got the vstream from a guy who wanted to do a trade straight up for my stock shield. I don't care much for it year round so BikerChuck gifted me an old stock shield that I run in the summer, and then I swap for the big barn door when it cools off.

The electric cord gets packed away and brought out at the same time, whether or not it'll be used right away.

I will "winterize" this season for the first time ever: got a big V-Stream windscreen, heated Laam seats, and VStrom knuckle guards.

I feel for you guys in more northern states. Started out this morning at 39 degrees at the farm in North Georgia, topped out at 59. The heated grips and new V-Strom hand guards are such a delight. From the Waffle House in Dawsonville we headed up toward the Cherohala Skyway but never made it. Stopped off on 294 at the Field of the Woods. Religious site that started back in the late 1800s. Not my cup of tea, but was quite impressive. Huge steep hillside with the ten commandments in marble. People spent some serious time constructing this place. Even had a grass airstrip at the top of Prayer Mountain. This whole place is in the middle of nowhere. Missed out on the twisties at the Cherohala, but a great day with good friends.ImageImageImageImage

In all of the times I've been to that region, I've never seen that place. I'll make a mental note..... thanks.

I don't mind living in a northern state. In the northern states summer daylight hours are longer than winter daylight hours in southern states. Of course if you don't mind riding in high heat an humidity in summer then ignore the previous sentence.

The past couple of weeks I have had my eye on a 2015 FJR ES for sale in Butte Montana with just under 10k miles for $7995. The dealership was not responsive to my requests for quality photos about about scratches on a saddle bags. (they did disclose they existed.) They said they would send me photos by email with better resolution of the scratches - they didn't. I called them more than once asking for better photos and they were non committal. Finally I said screw it and would drive seven hours to see the bike and scratches. So I asked to take the bike for a test drive when I arrived. They said I'd have to buy it first and could get my money back if I'd didn't like it. I said forget it.

I figured the new bike would cost me 7k after selling my 09. With this is mind I can have a lot of work done on my 09 by a dealer to fix any issues that I don't want to deal with. I do most of the maintenance myself so having a the rest done by a dealer to keep the bike going for 75k more miles will likely be less than 7k.

Rode it to work today. Weather forecast yesterday had been calling for rain so I drove my truck only to find at quitting time that it hadn't rained a drop.Forecast today is pleasant so the FJR got the job. Tomorrow looks like a different story with a chance of frozen white death from the sky in the forecast. Might have to take the long way home after work.

And dealers wonder why business is declining.

In this day and time if a dealer doesn't want to send photos they are hiding something. I bet that bike had worse problems then described.
