After 13+ years of FJR events I have a closet full of long and short sleeve shirts from the events. Some years I got shirts from four or more events. My wife has been gifting me with embroidered shirts and I have a shelf full of embroidered hats and printed FJR hats. The $5 per swing Wheaton pinata is a thought, but right now I can't think of anyone that is likely to attend that I would like to take a pinata stick to. Which all brings me back to suggesting some form of a money donation for the cause.

I will mention that as a group we have done pretty well with raffles and such.

The occasional do-dad is nice. I'll keep buying calendars as long as they're made. I got one of Tim's keychains, and a hat. Don't need any more shirts. But I'm happy to throw a few bucks in the kitty to pay for the bandwidth I use here. Good folks doing thankless work, so that'd be my "thank you."

Wayne, after you get some suggestions, maybe start a poll, to find out what works for everyone. I'm in for whatever you come up with, to keep this forum up and running smoothly.

I belong to several forums that accept donations - noted in the little box that pops up when you post as "Supporting Member" with some minimum donation, say $25 per year to be a "Supporting Member" a lot of inmates here are paying way more than $25 per year to support their member - JSNS

I bought a license plate frame and a hat last year. Love them both! I don't need another hat, frame or shirt for that matter. I'd rather donate to the cause. Rather than buying let's say a $20 item, I'd rather see the whole $20 go to the cause. This forum is an excellent resource for all of us. That said, I guess I could buy Trevor a hat if I had to.

And thank you for all the suggestions and support. I've always been hesitant to accept donations as I don't want the perception that I'm funding a new bike or trip or 'insert whatever here'. I appreciate the generosity of the group there - this is truly a very special cadre of like minded people; reading any thread about someone being in need will provide a proof source for that - Wheaton's recent incident being the freshest example - from the incident itself to encouraging him to heal to the epic search for another '13 for him to sacrific (and let JWILLY ride the snot out of it to boot...).

Here is what I've settled on.

I will create an item in the store for donations. I will create a balance sheet to track and share if asked. Donations will be used to support the webhosting fees and any software upgrades needed / required to support this site, the EOM site and FJRiders Store site. That store front is available for events hosted by members here (for instance, the 2018 Blackhills Round up event for BigJohnSD, and the ABS test harness / OBD adapter harness project for Rayzerman).

In conjunction with the EOM event, I will set up another round of FJRiders merchandise - hats, shirts, polo shirts and the bags that Gerald had samples done of.

Again, thank you...

Update - donation link.

I've set up a donation item in the store front - "FJRiders.com Donation". It is set to $1 - you can change the quantity to adjust the amount you wish to donate.

Thank you to both BigjohnSD and CraigRegs for their donations.

I had a balance burning a hole in my PayPal pocket so I sent it and will be sure to send more later. I like making a cash donation and not having to think about you using any more of your valuable time addressing and shipping an item to me. Take my money and keep more of your time for yourself and lovely family.

Update.

I'm a bit overwhelmed right now. There was never a doubt in my mind that this is group of generous individuals - we've seen it numerous times in the form of helping those in need or in time of need. I truly appreciate that generosity being turned toward the forum, and the relief it provides towards the cost of "keeping the lights on" here.

I want to explain - the annual costs are modest - The current hosting plan is less than $200 per year. Here are domain registration fees as well, which are minimal.

There have been some substantial donations - amounts that exceeded and shocked me, frankly. I've added an upper limit to the donation item in the store of $25. The upside to using the store front (and not another 'service' is that the only fee for the processing is the Paypal fee). I will be updating profiles to show the secondary rank for those who have contributed to display "Contributor".

Again, thank you to each of you who have taken the time to help out and keep 'the lights one'...

So what you're saying is, if we choose to donate more than your capped amount, we just have to go back and "order" it multiple times now....

Fine. :D
