Good trade though :D

Pulled the forks yesterday, one leaking. New seals and bushings today. Likely put it back together tomorrow, and change oil and final drive fluid.

As the ole girl approaches 60K, she's needing a little love. Hopefully, I'm caught up with that and good for another 35-40K, when I'll prolly put her out to pasture....

Next week, we ride!!!!

You think that's bad, go out there right now and change the right one...since yer "all practiced up an all."
:D
Yep, always replace as a pair because the second one will go soon. Do it now while you are good at it, or the other one will wait till it's inconvenient and you've kind of forgotten how.

Yes the bulbs get equal power on an FJR and left will go first, then the right in a few hours or a coupla days..... I can do these now in the dark by feel, but I converted to F2 LED's.

If you will, what brand, Part Number, Wattage? Source? Thanks.

F2 is the brand. Spec is H4/9003. I installed them too, very happy with them.

After riding in rain and drizzle for a few hours on Monday, the bike was a filthy pig and smelled like a wet dog with crap cooking off the exhaust. I gave it a quick bath and it looks (and smells) much better now.

Fork seals and bushings replaced. Made a couple of bushing and seal drivers from PVC and a stainless exhaust tip from auto zone. Not a bad job at all. Learned a couple of tips. Might share that on a separate thread.

I’ll put the tubes in the bike in the morning.

Getting ready for a trip.

Any trouble getting them apart? That can be the worst part - just ask Jasen.

None. Held the lower tube with on hand and moderately yanked the upper tube - seals and bushings came right out.

Of course, I did remove the clip. 😎

While I didn't encounter the difficulty that Jasen did, I had some trouble with mine. One came apart really easily and in the other, the middle bushing got wedged under the top one (I think). Much cursing, heating, yanking and bashing ensued but it eventually came loose. Did this at around 75,000 miles or so with the assistance of a knowledgeable fellow FJR owner. I had it done again (by a shop) at 150,000 miles - didn't have time as I was a couple days away from heading out on a trip when a fork leak appeared that was not amenable to Seal-Mate fix.

It will be interesting to see what happens on the current bike - 2011 but with a Traxxion AK-20 front end. When they do these, they do not replace the usual Gen II middle bushing so I am hoping it will be really easy.

I also got one apart, and yes, both clips were out. I now have the AK20's so they'll go out to Traxxion because they'll also replace wear parts in the AK20 cartridge as well. Even without the AK20 at the time, Traxxion did not put the middle bushing back in my forks, so there's that. Also, recently my neighbor loaned me this little tool and it is definitely amazing and better than the seal mate I think.

My "SealMate" is a piece of plastic cut from a milk jug. I like the looks of the one you linked.

In process of trying to move the old rear tire off the rim, I moved something in my collarbone instead that wasn't meant to move. It startled me and hurt a little. Doesn't hurt now, I don't think...so I don't think it's serious. Griff is gonna be a hero and finish the job tomorrow...

Edit: ...Finish the tire changing, not put a bullet in my head.

Same, I cleaned mine out and they still leaked. I tried this thing and it worked really well because it holds itself at the right angle. Got it jammed down in there, spun it a few times and pulled out a bunch of gunk. Working well since then. I need to order one so I can stop borrowing his, but it does give me an excuse to swing by to "Just pick up a tool" and spend over an hour talking motorcycles. :)

Got the forks installed in the bike this morning. Changed the oil, and the final drive oil. Short shake down ride and she's ready to go!

So I'm at 56K miles. I've gone through the valve adjustment, new coolant, new rear shock, near relay arm bearings and hardware, new front brake pads, and now, new fork seals. It's like a new bike.

Thursday, we ride!!
