Hi, from New Brunswick, Canada

Post by FJRoss »

FJR owner for 8 years or so (RossKean at the "other" site). Currently with an '07 FJR with just shy of 200,000 miles on it.
I am picking up a new (to me) well farkled 2011 with about 36,000 miles in a few weeks - if we can catch a break on the f***ing winter weather!!

I always said I belonged to enough forums and wasn't going to join any more. I have lurked here a bit but the decision to sign up was made after I read the "Jolene, Jolene, Jolene..." build thread! Great stuff.

Lots of familiar names here!

Cheers!

Still a couple of feet of snow on the front lawn! Big rain/sleet storm going on but I don't think we will get it like the Midwest, Great lakes and Ontario. The 2011 I am getting is in British Columbia so a fly-and-ride is planned (hopefully) around mid-May. Cool is OK but I draw the line at ice and snow. Weather in the mountains can be a bit of a crapshoot (even in May).

Cool beans, Ross. You'll like the 2011 I'm sure. Safe travels. Too bad a bit early for the passes in WA and MT to be open that time of year.

Welcome to this sandbox!
I've also been tempted by newer FJR's, but with only 130,000 miles on mine my frugal self can't justify a newer bike. I know if I bought a 2016, the 2007 would just sit. :(

Other than the color, it is pretty much a clone of the '07 except one fifth the number of miles. (I have to admit I would enjoy some of the Gen III or IV amenities) The 2011 is also very nicely farkled. The old bike has never let me down and doesn't burn a drop of oil. Clutch and transmission are perfectly OK as well but I get a little more concerned about longer trips. This one will last me a while and will likely see lighter duty if (as planned) I pick up a dual sport bike somewhere along the line.

It would be nice to do some of that. I will at least try Banff/Jasper on the way home. I did that before on a very cool afternoon at the end of June one year.

Thanks for the welcome. I think I will enjoy the flavor of this site.
A bit different fare with a little different emphasis. I tend to hang out on the more technical side of things but I am happy to help where I can and appreciate the assistance from those with vastly greater experience and knowledge.

Hi Ross, welcome! Glad to see you here. And that's for the very kind words about Jolene's thread :)
