Progressive was great when I totaled my '05. Cut me a check for the bike within days, bought my scuffed helmet and even paid the sales tax on the new bike. If I bought a new bike within 30 days they said they'd pick up the sales tax and they did.

And my rate only went up 20 bucks.

I have no complaints so far

I agree. Progressive is VERY tough to beat, both in terms of reasonable premiums for awesome coverage and quick, responsive service when you need 'em.

Just this week I compared them with both Allstate and State Farm. In terms of rates and coverage for motorcycles, Progressive was the clear winner.....by a long shot. In all fairness, auto insurance was a different story.

I have them too. Extremely competitive where I am. (for cars too)
They did me right when I lowsided in March.

BUT, from previous threads, their rates vary wildly based on zip code.
What is great for some of us, is not ideal from everyone.

I sucks that we have to do homework everytime we want a good deal....

Also, they do not do homeowners. So, they can't do one stop shopping.

When I scraped up my tupperware in Oct. '07 the adjuster spent an hour going over the bike looking for things to buy, then told me if I found anything else in teardown to let him know. I did, and they took care of it. Paid labor, even though I put the new plastic on myself. Paid for boots, jacket, rainsuit, and lid, too. Even sliders and bar ends! (Keep those invoices!!!)Whole process from him seeing the stuff to getting a check was 4 days, maybe 5.

I have a KLR650 and have been with Progressive since 2001 they have smokin' rates.

I started researching rates for a new FJR I am buying in a month or two. I expected that
Progressive would be on top for the two bikes, but surprisingly the best price was Geico
    by a lot. $1,100 Progressive, $686 Geico for a 2001 KLR650 and a 2009 FJR1300

    Geico Coverages
    • Bodily Injury Liability
      $100,000/$300,000
    • Property Damage Liability
      $100,000
    • Medical Payments
      $2,000
    • Un&Underinsured Motorist
      $100,000 / $300,000
    • Comprehensive
      $500 deductible
    • Uninsured Motorist
      $100,000/$300,000
    • Collision
      $500 Deductible
    • Towing
      NO-Deductible

    Geico?

Progressive Direct treated me kinda funny when I was shopping around prior to buying my FJR. A few weeks before I was due to get my bike they were lower than GEICO by $50 or so. I decided to buy insurance on the day I was to go pick up my bike and all of a sudden Progressive was like $200 higher than GEICO. Pretty sure I did everything the same, but it sure is baffling. Needless to say GEICO got my business.

Checked yesterday and Progressive was more than double my current carrier with less coverage.

I'll throw Markel American INS Co. in the mix, that's where I found the best rate.

As concluded in other insurance threads,...
insurance rates vary widely by company, customer, and county.
Ask around what riders living close to you have.
Brand "x" may be terrific in one zip code and crappy in another.

Around here for me GMAC has some of the best rates. Progressive, for roughly the same coverage was 2.5 times more.

I just joined forum and bought an '07. I got Progressive for $262 a year. I thought that was pretty good.

For the feej they left my rate alone. This yr they jacked my GS rate 100%. Needless to say they lost that business. GS is now insured with statefarm, that is, till it is sold.

The lowest I've found is Dairyland but reports are that some areas can't get them.

GEICO provides lidar and radar guns to cops as part of their cycle of rate hikes. increased chances of a ticket=increased chances of rate hikes. can't do endurance riding as anything more than something like 400 miles in a day is forbidden as are radar detectors.

Same situation here in SC. I just switched from Progressive to Allstate. Allstate was almost 1/3 the price I was paying with Progressive for the same coverage!

Funny, Last year I switched from State Farm to Progressive for both the 2006 FJR and 2009 KLR650. The combined total was the same price as just the FJR with State Farm. Every year or two insurance tries to go sky high, then I shop around. Been wirh Progressive three different times.
Don't ask me, I'm old and tired.

It's a racket. I insured with Progressive for years with good rates. Years ago State Farm would not even insure my FJ1100. It was on their blacklist.

When I got the FJR, Progressive quoted me almost $1k. Fook them. Both Gieco & State Farm quoted around $350. At renewal this year I'll be getting quotes again.

California Casualty just got my business, 100/300 full coverage with all the bells and whistles 33 bucks a month. Beat Progressive by 800 a year.

Progressive has not jacked up any rates on my stuff. Allstate in AL has though, about 40% this year due to the flooding so they say. When I moved from NC to AL my RV went up over 10% and my bikes went down more than 50%. I pay just over $300 for the 07 FJR with full loaded coverage and a not so perfect driving record with two items still showing.. I remember when it was 1K just for the FJR in Charlotte, NC. That sucked bad.

Just moving from Burke county in NC to down town Charlotte, NC right in the Char-Mech taxes was shocking when getting new tags. Don't you love State controlled insurance?

I had progressive up until my March 15 renewal. They wanted almost a thousand dollars more than Gieco for identical coverage on my two bikes!

I think these companies use a Ouji board to set rates.
